Square Peg assistant editor Mireille Harper has been promoted to editor at the Vintage imprint.
She will take the editorial helm alongside Liz Foley, acting publishing director for Square Peg and publishing director for Harvill Secker.
Harper joined Square Peg and Vintage in November 2019, working with new and existing authors including Amy Thomson, Andrew Gimson, Laura Dockrill and Rukmini Iyer. She acquired books including Stephen Moss’ The Swan and Rachel Thompson’s Rough.
Prior to joining, she was at Hachette UK on its 12-month Fresh Chapters traineeship programme working in editorial at Trapeze where she won the Harry Barker Prize, before going on to spend six months in marketing at Hodder Education. She then joined the Octopus Publishing Group as an editorial assistant for a year on the Cassell, Hamlyn and Monoray lists.
Outside her role, Harper works as a freelance writer, sensitivity reader and PR and comms consultant working with grass-roots arts and culture organisations, black-owned businesses and black creatives. She also mentors students looking to get into the publishing industry and offers editorial advice to aspiring writers.
