Tesco’s Blinkbox platform has said it is benefiting from “unprecedented” cross-media sales of the "Game of Thrones" (GOT) books and television series.
Sales of GOT series four are up 60% on the opening week of series three, which is having a knock-on effect to George RR Martin’s book sales, with all seven of the A Song of Ice and Fire (HarperCollins) titles, on which GOT is based, in the top seven spots of the Blinkbox books sales charts.
Blinkbox books officially launched to the public in March, six months after the launch of the platforms movies and music channels.
In a further bid to cross-merchandise between its online and in store offer, Tesco is offering 1,000 Clubcard points and a free pizza with every purchase of the new series on the service until 31st July. It is also selling all seven of the A Song of Ice and Fire books for £2 each.
Blinkbox c.o.o Adrian Letts, said: “The buzz around 'Game of Thrones' this year has reached fever pitch and that’s translating into sales. At blinkbox we are passionate about offering a brilliant entertainment experience for customers and the combination of the latest titles with attractive offers powered by our relationship with Tesco is a great formula.”
Gavin Sathianathan, m.d of Blinkbox Books, added: “The 100 Clubcard points offer has been hugely popular with our customers since we launched it in May. We are pleased to announce that we will be extending it for another month so there’s more time to stock up on summer reads for the holidays and earn Clubcard points at the same time.”
"Game of Thrones" seasons 1-4 are priced at £16.99 in SD and £23.99 in HD on blinkbox Movies and TV.
