Penguin business imprint Portfolio has acquired a title by Goldman Sachs Asset Management chairman Jim O'Neill.
World rights to The Growth Map was acquired jointly by Portfolio UK editorial director Joel Rickett and Adrian Zackheim, Portfolio founder and publisher in the US, directly from the author.
The book will be released globally on 5th December 2011, marking the 10-year anniversary of O'Neill's "Brics" concept, which argued Brazil, Russia, India and China would overtake the largest Western economies, such as the UK and the US, by 2050, due to their population size, increasing urbanisation and access to raw materials.
In The Growth Map O'Neill will detail how and why he developed this idea, and will also explain the "Next 11" concept for the latest set of fast-growing emerging markets, identifying them as Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Turkey and Vietnam.
Rickett said: "Jim O'Neill is one of the world's most influential economic thinkers—no wonder he has been described as Goldman Sachs' rock star. There is no one better placed to map our fast-shifting world and to predict the shape of things to come.
"We're thrilled to welcome him to Portfolio Penguin for this highly anticipated book."
