Simon & Schuster has bought world rights to a book by Tottenham and England footballer Paul Gascoigne. Described as a "celebration" of his career, Glorious: My World, Football and Me will be published on 13th October 2011.
Rights were bought directly from Gascoigne by Kerr MacRae, S&S executive director (pictured with Gascoigne and Rhea Halford, S&S sports commissioning editor). The publisher said: "Glorious will document the career of the football legend and provide an unrivalled insight into the player who was both brilliant and controversial but never less than supremely watchable."
The book will be illustrated with photographs throughout Gascoigne's career, which spanned stints at clubs such as Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio and Rangers. He was also capped 57 times for the English national team and was seen as the greatest but most mercurial talent of his generation.
MacRae said: "I’m delighted to be working with the legend that is Paul ‘Gazza’ Gascoigne—the greatest talent of his generation and the nearest thing England ever had to George Best!"
Gascoigne said: "It’s been great working on this book. It has given me the opportunity to relive some amazing times, my favourite moments, plus a few dodgy ones, and I am happy with what I see. Throughout my playing days I have always tried to share the experiences and the privileges with as many people as I could and that’s what I want to do here. I have fallen in love with football all over again."
Gascoigne has written two previous memoirs, both published by Headline.
