Frankfurt Book Fair Literary Agents and Scouts Centre (LitAg) has already sold out.
The fair told The Bookseller it had sold out “very early” this year, with all 460 tables already rented by agents from 29 different countries. The centre doesn’t usually sell out until the summer months.
Ricky Stock, who run the LitAg at FBF, said: “This took me by surprise as well. I am guessing that we sold out earlier this year because agents have been talking about making a change and moving their Tuesday appointments to the fairground since last October and talking about it probably also reminded them to submit their registration forms. That’s my theory, at least.”
He added: “We also have 12 new agencies which is quite a lot.”
However, the German book fair is opening a new Publishers Rights Corner - a workspace for rights managers from international publishing houses - located immediately next to the LitAg.
It will be open to the staff of rights departments on Tuesday, 18th October, for meetings with editors and publishers.
Stock said: “Many agents will begin holding their meetings in the LitAg on Tuesday this year, instead of in the adjacent hotels. In consideration of this development, we wanted to offer publishers, editors, and rights departments the opportunity to conduct their meetings on the fairgrounds on the Tuesday as well. Editors will have free access to the fairgrounds on the Tuesday.”
Stock is now accepting registration applications for the Publishers’ Rights Corner. Publishers or rights managers who are already registered with a stand at the 2016 Book Fair can book an additional table with four chairs at the Rights Corner on Tuesday.
