Dawson Books has begun consulting with employees after announcing major head office departments will move to Bertram’s site in Norwich.
Dawson recently merged with the Norwich-based book wholesaler after Bertrams’ parent company Smith News bought it for £20m.
Staff were told this morning (15th November) that redundancies would be likely at Dawson Books head office site in Rushden when the human resources, finance and servicing of books department moves to Norwich. It said it hoped 90 jobs could be relocated to Norwich, subject to consultation.
Nick Harknett, group commercial director, said moving the departments would improve efficiencies and reduce costs. He said: “The precise timing and impact of this is subject to further consultation but, given the change in location, there are likely to be redundancies at the Rushden site.
“Our aim is to treat everyone fairly and we will be consulting with the employee forum and with all employees affected. We are very keen to retain the skills and experience of people in the business and to limit the number of redundancies where possible. We will therefore do our best to find potential alternative employment for all those who wish to remain within the group.”
The IT, marketing, customer services, commercial, sales and business support functions will remain at Rushden and the overseas sales functions will continue to operate as normal.
