Sara Cywinski is leaving Ebury Spotlight to join Pan Macmillan in the newly created role of Pan non-fiction publishing director.
She will work alongside publishing directors Ingrid Connell and Mike Harpley who is joining Pan Macmillan from Atlantic, with the team also including editor Matthew Cole. Cywinski will be responsible for publishing unique non-fiction titles across memoir, celebrity, music, sport, comedy, true crime and pop culture. She takes up her role on 1st February 2022 and will report to publisher Lucy Hale.
Cywinski has been at Ebury for nearly a decade and is currently publishing director, managing the entertainment hub’s Ebury Spotlight imprint and overseeing the acquisition and publication of authors such as Sheridan Smith, Lady Pamela Hicks, Graeme Hall, Guy Martin and Mo Gilligan.
Commissioning popular culture for the past 13 years, she has been responsible for publishing many Sunday Times and New York Times bestsellers, as well as household names, including books by Sarah Harding, Dan Howell & Phil Lester, Mindy Kaling, Dani Dyer, DSI Steve Fulcher and Dr Amir Khan. “Over the years she has also discovered and published platform authors with committed and dedicated online audiences or unique voices, developing projects into bestsellers,” Pan Macmillan said. These include The Red Shepherdess with Call Me Red, Laura Belbin with Knee Deep in Life, The Highland Vet’s A Year at Thurso, Cash Carraway’s Skint Estate and Safiyya Vorajee’s Losing and Loving You, among others.
Hale said “Sara has a stellar reputation for publishing bestsellers and discovering IP projects and developing ideas that lead to hugely successful books. Her appointment gives us extra strength and depth, and her talents will perfectly complement those of Ingrid, Mike and Matt completing a Non-Fiction publishing dream team at Pan which will commission and develop a very broad range of the best commercial non-fiction.”
Cywinski added: “Having admired Pan’s books from a distance for many, many years, I am overjoyed to be joining their team at this exciting time of growth. With so many big personalities on their list, and so many books that align with my personal tastes, from Elton to Louis Theroux, I can’t wait to get stuck in and help to build on their already very successful list.”
