Charlotte Cray has been appointed to the newly created role of publishing director for Windmill Books, with Windmill becoming a full hardback imprint as well as retaining the paperback publishing from sister imprints Hutchinson and William Heinemann.
Gray joins from HarperCollins where she was part of the team that launched The Borough Press in 2014. At Borough she worked with authors including Lionel Shriver, Joanna Cannon and Tracy Chevalier, with her most recent acquisitions including How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie, Adults by Emma Jane Unsworth and Talent by Juliet Lapidos.
She will take up her PRH role on November 18th and report to Cornerstone m.d. Susan Sandon, joining the Cornerstone Executive.
Sandon said: “I am delighted to be welcoming Charlotte to the Cornerstone management team. I know that together with Windmill editor Laurie Ip Fung Chun she will take the imprint forward to a strong new future both by growing the lists through acquisition and by helping showcase our existing talent. We are committed to growth and this appointment is an important strategic step for us.”
Jason Arthur, publisher for William Heinemann, Hutchinson and Windmill, added: “Watching from afar, it’s difficult not to be impressed by Charlotte’s publishing acumen. I very much look forward to welcoming her to the editorial team here and working alongside her. I am excited to see Windmill flourish in this new incarnation.”
