Cara Chimirri has joined Avon permanently as senior commissioning editor, after originally joining the imprint to cover Rachel Faulkner-Willcocks' maternity leave.
Chimirri previously worked as commissioning editor for Bookouture. During that time, she published global digital bestsellers from Liz Lawler, Ali Mercer, Siobhan Curham and Elizabeth Neep, among others.
Since joining Avon, Chimirri has taken over such authors as Phillipa Ashley, Katerina Diamond, Lorna Cook, Fiona Gibson and J M Hall. She replaces Faulkner-Willcocks who is now editorial director at Aria Fiction, an imprint at Head of Zeus.
Chimirri said: "I am simply over the moon to be joining the Avon editorial team permanently. Every day I feel so inspired by the incredibly talented authors and colleagues I am lucky enough to work with. Avon truly is at the top of their game in giving commercial readers exactly what they love. I can’t wait to create more bestsellers with the team in 2022!"
Publishing director Thorne Ryan added: "Cara is a consummate professional, a masterful editor and a keen strategist, and on top of that is a pleasure to work with in every way. I am absolutely thrilled that she has become a permanent part of the Avon family, and can’t wait to see how her list develops."
Chimirri is on the look out for any commercial novel with a great hook and compelling voice. She is especially interested in gripping historical fiction that will capture readers’ imaginations as well as high-concept women’s fiction and twisty, page-turning crime and thriller books. She is also actively seeking out narratives underrepresented in mainstream, commercial publishing.
