Chalke Valley History Festival is to return in 2012 with a five-fold expanded programme and partnerships with Waterstones and the Daily Mail.
Now in its second year, the Wiltshire-based festival, which focuses on literary events devoted entirely to history, has expanded to 50 events across four evenings plus a weekend, running from 26th June-1st July. The line-up includes Amanda Vickery, Max Hastings and Jeremy Paxman.
Waterstones, a local partner last year, will expand its support nationally, including distribution of half a million bookmarks advertising the festival through all its stores. The Daily Mail will support the festival editorially, with details to be confirmed.
The festival is also set to launch the Chalke Valley History Prize, a historical writing competition for teenagers, which will be judged by secretary of state for education, Michael Gove and children’s laureate Michael Morpurgo.
Further plans include a vote for “The Greatest Briton” and a “History Catwalk”, telling the story of fashion.
