Carlton Books is publishing the only official companions to the biggest sporting competition of the year, the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.
Carlton has world rights to three titles, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Official Book and two books aimed at children—the Fact File and Activity Book.
The Official Book and Fact File contain previews of the tournament, with photographs and expert analysis of star players, the teams and their prospects in the finals.
The titles also feature a guide to each of the stadiums and host cities, a history of the World Cup and a tournament progress chart that can be filled in as the competition progresses.
The Activity Book is filled with puzzles, games, stickers and pictures to colour in. It also contains 75 colour images and is introduced by “Zakumi the leopard”, who is the official 2010 World Cup mascot. It too features a fill-in progress chart.
Jim Greenhough, sales and marketing director, highlighted the “massive success” of Carlton’s first publication partnership with Fifa, World Football Records. Carlton state that the title has sold more than half a million copies worldwide.
Greenhough added: “We are now set to repeat and build on this success with three official FIFA books to celebrate the World Cup in South Africa in June and July this year. The South Africa World Cup is the biggest and highest profile sports event there is and to be working with FIFA on their books is very exciting and set to give a great lift to the first half of 2010.”
The three titles, the only ones to be endorsed by FIFA, will be published in April, in time for the event which kicks off on 11th June. The Fact File, in a hardback, is priced at £6.99, the paperback Activity Book at £3.99 and Official Book at £10.99.
