Pan Macmillan has appointed Lois Bray to the new role of corporate communications director, starting in March.
The publisher said Bray will be responsible "for building Pan Macmillan’s reputation with all its stakeholders, focusing on what makes the UK-based publisher an attracted place to work, be published by and partner with".
She brings more than 12 years of communications experience to the role, including seven at Bonnier Books UK where she has managed all industry communications, led the company’s successful 2021 rebrand and developed the company’s inclusion and representation action plan in partnership with Bonnier’s HR team. Prior to Bonnier Books UK, Bray led the communications for Haymarket Media Group helping to reposition the company from a UK-centric magazine publisher to an international media group.
In joining Pan Macmillan, Bray fills "a key new role in the company’s communications leadership team", reporting to group communications director Sara Lloyd.
Lloyd said: “Pan Macmillan has a distinct story to tell — not just of our commercial ambition and achievements but also our collaborative team culture, our focus on the highest standards, our international outlook and our drive always to do better, for our authors and our world — and I can’t think of a better person than Lois to join at this point in our company’s development to ensure this story is told with absolute clarity, energy and purpose.”
Joanna Prior, c.e.o., added: “I am looking forward to Lois joining Pan Macmillan. She is joining at a time when we are renewing our commitment to being a destination for the best talent in terms of our people, authors and illustrators. Her skills and expertise will be a great addition to our strong senior communications team as we reinforce the importance of books and reading in the broader culture.”
Bray also commented: "I’ve admired Pan Macmillan for a long time and now — following the arrival of Joanna as c.e.o. — is such an exciting time to be asked to lead their corporate communications. I’ve enjoyed many happy years at Bonnier and I’m especially thankful to Perminder Mann [c.e.o. of Bonnier Books] for all her support: she has been a wonderful boss, mentor and friend. But I’m looking forward to a fresh challenge, working with Sara and the talented teams across Pan Macmillan to communicate their unique company story."
Mann said: “Lois has played a key role in the turnaround of Bonnier Books UK and excellently navigated our communications during turbulent times. She spearheaded our brilliant rebrand and has worked tirelessly with our HR director Anna MacLaren May to launch industry-leading inclusion policies. Most recently she has taken on responsibility for our design team, helping them to scale for growth by improving efficiency. She is an integral member of our leadership team, a great colleague and a dear friend. She will be missed enormously, but I look forward to watching her continue to grow and thrive at Pan Macmillan.”
