Online bookseller Book Club Associates (BCA) has been sold to a retail home entertainment supplier.
The Webb Group, which supplies retail home entertainment products including games, DVDs, music and gifts, announced the acquisition of the BCA, which sells books through mail order and online, today [8th March].
The online book retailer also ran Books Direct and Books for Children and has around a quarter of a million customers. They will now join the customers of The Webb Group, which equates to around one million across mail order and online.
Webb Group c.e.o. Joe McNicholas said he had a "clear strategy for growth" and looked forward to marketing BCA products to his company's customers using "customer relationship management and e-commerce skills".
"We are delighted with the acquisition of BCA and look forward to working with the publishers to increase sales and awareness of BCA's various offerings," he said.
"We believe our experience working with large customer databases in mail order and e-commerce will enable us to fully exploit the value within BCA's extensive database of book lovers.
"We will also continue to look for other acquisition opportunities that complement our growth strategy."
The Webb Group supplies entertainment products to more than 2,500 retail outlets across the UK and Ireland, and to more than three million customers direct, including over one million customers via its own Razamataz, Simply Entertainment and choicesuk mail order and e-commerce brands.
