Andersen signs "big Bologna book" The Ghost Prison

Andersen Press has acquired world rights in The Ghost Prison, a novella by author of The Spook's Apprentice Joseph Delaney, which the publisher is billing as its "big book" of Bologna next week.

Fiction editorial director Charlie Sheppard bought the title from Carolyn Whitaker at London Independent Books, with the illustration rights bought via Eddie Gamarra.

The story will be illustrated by Scott M Fischer and Andersen Press will publish to coincide with the launch of the "Seventh Son" movie this autumn, which is an adaptation of The Spook's Apprentice, the first in his dark fantasy Wardstone Chronicles series.

The book is set in a castle in Lancashire, where a boy works overnight as a prison guard, with unknown and fearsome presences lurking.

The novella has already been pre-empted in the US by Source Books, as well as by publishers in Brazil, France and Turkey and Andersen Press said it is anticipating much more international interest at Bologna next week.
