Independent publisher Salariya has acquired the English language rights to the award-winning fantasy series Amos Daragon for its new imprint Scribo.
Written by Canadian author Bryan Perro, the 12-title series has already sold 1.5m copies in French, and has been translated into 19 languages. In 2006, the author won the Quebec Youth Prize for Fiction and Fantasy for his work. A $1m (£700,000) animation series is currently in development.
Scribo will launch when it releases the first volume, entitled The Mask Wearer, in June this year. The second, The Key of Braha, comes out in September. Cover artwork is by David Frankland.
Salariya said part of the appeal was Perro's ability to incorporate well known mythologies from places such as Greece, Skandanavia and Egypt "into a fantastical world of his own design, full of adventure, sorcery, danger and humour".
As well as the Amos Daragon series, Scribo will look to publish fiction titles "with a view to using exciting new titles as multi-media platforms for games, add-on books and more".
It joins Salariya's existing imprints, Book House and Scribbler, which respectively publish graphic novels and baby or pre-school books.
