Matthew Hennessey has been appointed as range manager at Waterstones.
Hennessey, currently commercial manager for London, has been appointed to the position following Waterstones' head of books Melissa Cox’s move to become editorial director at Hodder & Stoughton announced last month.
At the same time, Waterstones' fiction buyer Chris White has been promoted to head of publisher liaison and fiction. White has held the fiction post since 2012, but will now take on responsibility for the publisher liaison team with immediate effect.
Hennessey will take up the range manager role once a replacement for the London commercial manager position has been found.
A spokesperson for Waterstones said: “Hennessey will lead the central Range Team to help deliver intelligent, appropriate, tailored ranges for Waterstones’ shops. In his previous role of London commercial manager, Hennessey revitalised the ranges at Piccadilly, Hatchards and St Pancras and was also integral in helping to rethink the ranges across the business’ metropolitan shops.”
Kate Skipper, Waterstones buying director, added: “I am tremendously excited by these appointments; I believe they will strengthen both our Books team and the key relationships that we have with publishers.”
