Virgin Books has acquired a biography of Eqyptian queen Cleopatra, which is the basis of a film currently in development, which is set to star Angelina Jolie.
Louise Joyner, Virgin editorial director, bought UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada in Cleopatra, A Life from Tracy Williams at Little, Brown for an undisclosed sum.

Cleopatra, A Life, returns to classical sources and separates fact from fiction, according to the publisher, who describes it as "rich in detail, epic in scope". It will be published on 4th November as a £20 hardback.
