Patrick Walsh of Conville and Walsh concluded two “big” deals at Frankfurt.
He accepted “a big American pre-empt”—in the bar of the Frankfurterhof, late on Tuesday night—from Molly Stern of Broadway/Random House USA for the first non-fiction book, The Society of Timid Souls by the British documentary maker, Polly Morland. The book, on bravery and courage, is aimed at the Alain de Botton market. Later in the week he sold the UK rights to Rebecca Gray and Daniel Crewe of Profile in a four-way British auction.
Walsh later concluded a “big six-figure deal” for the UK rights to a new book by Tom Holland, the historian and chairman of the Society of Authors, entitled Dynasty, which will tell the whole story of the Roman emperors.
