Sarah Odedina has resigned from her position as children’s publisher at Oneworld saying she did not receive the necessary support to build her list.
Odedina told The Bookseller yesterday (9th December): “Today I resigned and I am no longer working for Oneworld publications.”
She leaves the company with immediate effect.
Juliet Mabey, publisher at Oneworld, said: “We were very disappointed to hear that Sarah has decided to leave after 7 months at the helm of Rock the Boat [the children’s and YA imprint], but we wish her all the best with her new magazine venture, and we will be looking for a new children’s editor in the New Year.”
Odedina joined Oneworld in May to launch Young Adult imprint Rock the Boat.
At the time, Mabey said hiring her was like “sticking our flag in the ground” because she “is one of the most highly regarded editors in the children’s book market, and having someone of her quality shows the trade how much we really want to publish great books”. But Odedina told The Bookseller that she was "not given the support or trust that would be essential to build a successful list".
Odedina was previously m.d. at Hot Key Books, a role she left in November 2014.
