Internet bookseller The Book Depository recorded sales growth of more than 50% in its latest financial year, according to the group. Turnover jumped to £61m in the year to end-June 2009, representing growth of 51.7% on the previous year's figure of £40.5m.
Kieron Smith, who joined as managing director in August last year, said: "This year has seen some tremendous developments for customers and a huge extension of our free shipping offer around the globe. Alongside our constant efforts to make as many books available as possible has meant that more and more customers are discovering The Book Depository every day.”
The company launched a new web site for both international and US shoppers, and said it had engaged in greater promotional activity with publishers.
No further figures were revealed, though the company did add that if all of books that The Book Depository shipped in the last year were placed in a line they would amount to more than 250,000 Double Decker buses.
