Random House Children’s Books has restructured its fiction team, making two new appointments and promoting three team members.
Lauren Buckland and Ruth Knowles have both been promoted to commissioning editor, while Natalie Doherty becomes assistant editor. New hire Pete Matthews, who will join the team in January, has been appointed as editorial assistant, working across the whole fiction list. Matthews was previously sales operations co-ordinator for Transworld and RHCB.
In the new arrangement, staff will be split into two commissioning teams, under editorial directors Kelly Hurst and Becky Stradwick. Hurst will manage individual titles and author-led fiction, while Stradwick’s team will concentrate on acquiring new series, major fantasy and US YA brands.
Buckland and Doherty will both join Hurst’s team, working with authors like Theresa Breslin and Aidan Chambers. Knowles will report to Becky Stradwick, handling authors including Chris Ryan, Steve Cole and Jo Cotterill. He will also oversee the commissioning on the Tamarind list, with support from new editor Parul Bavishi, who also joins in January 2011, from Quercus Children’s Books.
Publisher Annie Eaton said: "I am thrilled with these promotions and new appointments, and to have two such strong deputies in Becky and Kelly focusing on running their own areas of the list. This restructure will put us in prime position to maximise the acquisition of strong new titles, publishing them well in all formats both physical and digital."
