Wildfire has won a three-way auction for You’ll Like It When You Get There by comedian Rhys James, a “hilarious guide to life from someone who doesn’t want to do anything, and an exploration of why you possibly shouldn’t either”.
Editorial director Philip Connor acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Zoe Ross at United Agents for publication on 14th August 2025.
The synopsis states: “Follow Rhys as he avoids not just social engagements, but big life milestones, like getting married and having children.” The publisher calls the book an “introvert’s manifesto, the overthinker’s dossier”.
James is a comedian and writer who has performed six solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and two sell-out international tours. He has appeared on a range of TV and radio shows, such as QI, Live At The Apollo and as one of the final regulars on Mock The Week. He is also the creator of three award-nominated BBC Radio 4 series.
James said: “I’ve always wanted to write a book, partly because it doesn’t require leaving the house. Or shed. I’m eternally grateful to Wildfire for giving me the platform, and terrified for anyone to read it and find out who I really am.”
Connor added: “I’ve loved Rhys’ work for years, so it has been amazing to work with him on this hilarious new book. It is also uplifting, insightful and inspiring – even if what it’s inspiring you to do is absolutely nothing. It’s a refreshingly honest look at modern life, and how to get out of living it.”
