UCLan has swooped for the third book in Liz Flanagan’s Legends of the Sky trilogy, The Pirate’s Dragon, and will republish the first two books in the series.
Publisher Hazel Holmes acquired UK and the Republic of Ireland rights from Abi Sparrow and Phil Perry at SP Agency. The Pirate’s Dragon will be published in March 2024 with Dragon Daughter, the first in the series, republishing in November 2023 and the second, Rise of the Shadow, following in January 2024 with new cover artwork by Joe Todd-Stanton and additional inside content.
Originally, the first two books in Flanagan’s series were published in 2018 and 2020, respectively, by David Fickling Books and enjoyed "healthy sales" in hardback, paperback and foreign editions according to UCLan. Flanagan is also known for her Wildsmith series for young middle-grade readers, illustrated by Todd-Stanton. She commented: "I’m delighted that UCLan Publishing have acquired the trilogy and I am very happy to be working with Joe Todd-Stanton and the whole UCLan team again, and so happy to finally share the third book and conclude the story for reader."
Holmes added: "I’m excited to be bringing the Legend of the Sky series back to readers. I’ve been a fan since their original publication and we can’t wait to finally give the series’ many fans the ending they’ve been waiting for."
