Ryland Peters & Small (RPS) has signed The Malay Cook: Everyday Malaysian Recipes from Grandma’s Kitchen to Mine by Ranie Saidi, the London-based host of The Malay Cook Supper Club.
RPS editorial director Julia Charles acquired world rights from Becky Thomas at Lewinsohn Literary. The cookbook will be published in hardback and e-book on 14th April 2026.
“Through poignant anecdotes and the legacy of his grandmother’s recipes, The Malay Cook traces Ranie’s journey from Kuala Lumpur to London,” the publisher said.
“The book celebrates the flavours of Malay cuisine, representing the majority population of Malaysia, a part of the country’s culinary culture that has not yet been widely shared. Ranie brings these everyday dishes to life, sharing its history and adapting them with everyday ingredients to suit his lifestyle in London, while staying grounded in the heart of the cuisine.”
Saidi said: “These recipes are my way of honouring my grandmother, grieving her absence and celebrating the love she passed down to me. They carry the flavours of my childhood and the memories of my birth land, intertwined with the life I’ve built here, showing that Malay cuisine can be recreated and cherished in any kitchen, anywhere in the world.”
Charles said: “Ranie is an exciting talent who focuses his energy and passion on bringing the Malay cuisine of Malaysia to London through his popular supper clubs. His cooking remains rooted in heritage, yet he skilfully evolves and adapts these recipes so they can be enjoyed in any kitchen, creating vibrant, modern plates. His debut book not only beautifully showcases his food but also takes readers on an emotional journey as he pays tribute to both his Malaysian roots and his much-missed grandmother, who continues to inspire him to cook.”
