Jabal Entertainment has announced it will develop a prequel television series to Sarah Mughal Rana’s adult debut, Dawn of the Firebird (Bloomsbury Archer). The rights were acquired from Paige Terlip at the Andrea Brown Literary Agency and lawyer Matt Saver.
Screenwriter Martin Askew is attached to the project alongside producer Nain F Ladak. The series will begin filming in 2026 and will explore the life of Aysenor, a nomadic storyteller who must marry the imperial prince to protect her people.
"I am delighted to collaborate with a team that understands the heart and grit of Dawn of the Firebird," said Rana. "Amid the court intrigue, alliances and the fight for the throne, this is a story of finding and holding onto love in all of its forms, while resisting darkness.
"This prequel delves into the early lives of the book’s main cast, which is such a treat! It’s great to be working with a team that is committed to faithfully adapt this world on-screen."
CEO Sohaib Awan said: "This is fundamentally a story about the primal nature of human ambition and the lengths people will go for power, and how in the absence of morality, the road to ruin is paved with the best of intentions."
