Puffin has struck a “major” seven-figure, four-book deal with Rick Riordan and four co-authors for a new series set in the world of Percy Jackson. Puffin publisher Anthea Townsend acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, with exclusive European rights, from Jodie Hodges at United Agents.
The new series is set in the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians at the legendary Camp Half-Blood, the secret sanctuary and training ground for young demigods, the children of Greek gods and mortals, and introduces readers to four new heroes.
"When a forbidden and dangerous area at camp known as the Wild Zone is unleashed, campers begin to disappear, and the fate of the camp is at stake," the description continues. "The four new demigods must face monsters, curses and impossible choices, all while discovering what it means to truly belong."
Each instalment of the Camp Half-Blood series will be written by Rick Riordan in collaboration with a celebrated author – Annabelle Oh (book one), Kyle Lukoff (book two), Jade Adia (book three) and Pablo Cartaya (book four) – with each book spotlighting a different young hero and "expanding the Percy Jackson universe in bold and unexpected ways".
The publisher said: "Designed to excite longtime fans while offering a new entry point for readers discovering the world of Percy Jackson for the first time, the series blends mythology, mystery and character-driven storytelling with new voices and perspectives."
Continues…
A huge global launch is set for September 2026 with the first in the series, The Wild Zone, followed by The Rite of Aphrodite in 2027, with further titles to follow. All four books will be published simultaneously with Penguin Random House US. The covers will be illustrated by children’s illustrator Devin Elle Kurtz.
The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series has recently been adapted into an Emmy Award-winning Disney+ original series, which Riordan co-created and executive produced. He said: "Working on the Percy Jackson TV show allowed me to revisit the world of Camp Half-Blood and see it from many new angles. It made me wonder what was happening back at camp between the books of the original series, when Percy, Annabeth and Grover weren’t around.
"This new series gives me a chance to explore that idea, while opening up Percy’s world by introducing a new group of demigod heroes, co-created with amazing authors who can write authentically about those heroes’ backgrounds. It’s been an incredible thrill!"
Oh said: "I can’t begin to describe how fun it was to play in this world. Rick has done an amazing job building it out over the years, and I’m excited for readers to see a little more of what goes on at Camp Half-Blood with these new characters and some of their favourite existing ones."
Townsend commented: "The Percy Jackson universe has always shown young readers that anyone can be a hero, and that what makes you different may just be your greatest strength. This major new series is beautifully true to that spirit, and The Wild Zone delivers an unputdownable adventure full of authentic representation, action-packed heroics, humour and heart.
"We are so thrilled to have this landmark piece of publishing launching this September with a massive global campaign to reach and delight both long-standing fans and new readers discovering the Percyverse for the first time, over 20 years since The Lightning Thief first published."
