Penguin Life has acquired The Madness of Markets: Why Investors Make Crazy Decisions and How to Exploit Them, the new book from global finance expert Alex Edmans.
Senior commissioning editor Matt James acquired UK Commonwealth English-language rights and world translation rights from Chris Wellbelove at Aitken Alexander. The hardback edition will be published in March 2027 alongside a US edition, which will be published by Paul Whitlatch, editorial director at Crown Currency.
"The Madness of Markets uncovers the hidden forces that drive global boom and busts in the stock market, detailing how even the smartest investors make irrational decisions," the synopsis says. "Through gripping storytelling and original research, the book offers unique strategies for making smarter investing decisions that take advantage of a world that often thinks fast, loud and wrong."
Edmans said: "We’re in the golden age of investing. Markets are more accessible than ever, but also more chaotic. I’m excited to write an insightful yet entertaining guide for the modern investor – to help readers dodge the hype, outsmart the herd and turn emotion into opportunity. This book will be for anyone with a pension, retirement account, or interest in how psychology can swing entire markets."
James added: "I am so thrilled to be working with Alex Edmans on his new book, which proves to be his most exciting one yet. Investing often seems indecipherable, but Alex is a master decoder – no-one else can make global finance as approachable, fascinating and enjoyable as he can. I have already learned so much from working with him, and I can’t wait to share this book with the world."
