Meyer & Meyer has secured Catch Me If You Can, the autobiography of “one of the world’s best 1500m runners of all time” Filbert Bayi.
International programme director Liz Evans acquired world rights, excluding North America, from Miles Schrag at Soulstice Publishing. It is scheduled for publication in July 2022.
During his career Bayi set two world records and secured Tanzania’s first ever Olympic medal and still holds the Commonwealth record for his 1974 race. Now in his autobiography, Bayi tells his inspiring story, from overcoming challenges on and off the track, to supporting his home country as an educator and sports administrator. “Over nearly 70 years, his experiences consistently reflect the three values he treasures most – sacrifice, commitment and confidence – resulting in an unforgettable example for anyone, anywhere to follow,” the publisher said.
Bayi holds the Commonwealth Games Sports Administrator of the Year Award and a special lifetime achievement award from the Commonwealth Games General Assembly, awarded in 2018. He will be attending the Commonwealth Games this year, which are to be held in Birmingham from 28th July to 8th August.
Sebastian Coe, president of world athletics, said of Bayi and Catch Me If You Can: “I’m happy to be in any club that has Filbert Bayi as a member. You don’t have to be a former world record-holder to appreciate the determination and commitment he’s exemplified to become a legendary runner and someone who graciously gives back to his country.”
