Blink Publishing has acquired the new book by comedian Katherine Ryan in a six-figure deal. First Born Daughter will be published by Blink on 22nd October 2026.
Publishing director Ciara Lloyd acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, including Canada, from Flo Howard at Off The Kerb. Ryan’s debut book, The Audacity, was published by Blink in 2021.
First Born Daughter explores the psychology and reality of what it means to be a woman, a wife and a daughter today, the publisher says: "Filled with Katherine’s outspoken humour and wit, expect home truths, real talk and Katherine’s inimitable honest opinions. The book will delve into family dynamics, women’s rights, parenting, health, ageing and so much more, as Katherine navigates the world we live in today."
Ryan said: "I’ve spent a decade being called ‘acerbic’ just for having thoughts in whole sentences. My first book, The Audacity, was a blueprint for being ‘too much’, but First Born Daughter is for anyone who was born into the role of unpaid family manager or simply suffers from hyper independence as a trauma response.
"With this second book, I’m leaning even further into the ‘unflinching honesty’ I’ve become known/celebrated/feared for. It’s part social commentary, part survival guide for daughters, and 100% written while I was probably carrying a refrigerator up some stairs alone. First Born Daughters. We’ve got it.”
Lloyd said: "Katherine is not only a comedy legend but someone who captures the zeitgeist so perfectly in everything she does. I’m thrilled to welcome her back to Blink for First Born Daughter, the book every woman needs to read this autumn!"
