Aster has signed Solo: What Running Across Mountains Taught Me About Life by Jenny Tough, an endurance athlete and editor of the anthology Tough Women Adventure Stories (Summersdale).
Publisher Stephanie Jackson acquired world all-language rights directly from the author and will publish the book, which chronicles Tough’s “call to action to find strength, confidence and self-belief”, on 7th July.
Spanning Tien Shan, the High Atlas, the Bolivian Andes, the Southern Alps, the Canadian Rockies and the Transylvanian Alps, Solo is described by the publisher as a testament to Tough’s courage.
Its synopsis reads: “Jenny Tough is an endurance athlete who’s best known for running and cycling in some of the world’s most challenging events, achieving accolades that are an inspiration to outdoor adventurers everywhere. But Solo tells the story of a much more personal project: Jenny’s quest to come to terms with feelings and emotions that were holding her back.
“So she set herself an audacious objective: to run—solo, unsupported—across mountain ranges on six continents, starting with one of the most remote locations on Earth, in Kyrgyzstan. What Jenny’s story tells us most of all is that setting out to do things solo—whether the ambitious or the everyday—can be invigorating, encouraging and joyful.”
Tough said: “This project took me five years and around the world and shaped so much of my life. What I thought would be a monumental physical challenge truly became a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. I hope that anyone—runner or not—can identify with the barriers I face and the internal processes I navigated. Ultimately, I want every reader to come away feeling inspired and empowered to take on their own proverbial mountains.”
