Jacaranda has acquired a “witty, heartfelt and sometimes gut-wrenching” romance novella, With Your Bad Self, by American author Kerika Fields.
World rights to the title were acquired by Jacaranda’s c.e.o Valerie Brandes direct from the author. With Your Bad Self was first published in the US in November 2022, and will publish in the UK on 18th May.
Set in New York during the Second World War, the novella focuses on a Brooklyn love triangle that highlights the precarious lives of Black women in 1940s America, says the publisher.
Fields is a New York-based writer and photographer whose work has been published and exhibited widely. Her articles have appeared in Essence, Variety, VIBE, and the Source, while her photographs have been shown at the Brooklyn Historical Society, the McKenna Museum in New Orleans and the Leica Gallery in Manhattan, among others. She is also the author of He’s Gone…You’re Back: The Right Way to Get Over Mr Wrong (Kensington Publishing). With Your Bad Self is her first book to be published in the UK.
