Hodder & Stoughton is set to publish Sara Cox’s next novel.
UK & Commonwealth rights to The Truth of Us were acquired by Hannah Black - who has since moved to S&S - from Melanie Rockcliffe at YMU, and the book will publish on 16th July 2026 in hardback, e-book and audiobook. Executive director of publishing, Jo Dickinson will publish.
The publisher described The Truth of Us as a novel about love, family, friendship and hope – and the people we want by our side through everything.
The book is set in Manchester in 1982 and follows Abi and Christy as they grow up together, from questionable fashion choices, illicit nights out and doomed romances, growing up together they share everything. Except the secret that eventually tears them apart.
The synopsis continues: "Two decades later, Abi’s life is one of marriage, family and stability. Christy, always the wilder of the two, has travelled and partied and risen high in the TV world. Until, unexpectedly, they’re living next door to each other again. Is it finally time to confront the past and speak the truth?"
Cox said: "I’ve loved hanging out with these two brilliant women – from raving in Blackpool and teenage trauma to Balearic adventures and family traditions – it’s been quite a ride! Now I can’t wait to share their story with the world. The Truth of Us is my most real and daring book yet, but, as with all my books, it’s rooted in female friendship and celebrates women in all their brave, funny and complex glory."
Dickinson, said: "Sara is a magnificent storyteller. The Truth of Us contains all of her wonderful warmth, wisdom and wit; it’s a beautiful novel about the bonds of family and friendship, and a deeply poignant and achingly moving love story. This will be the novel of summer 2026 and we are creating a stand-out campaign to launch it."
