DK has acquired Around the World in 80 Seeds by August Beth, head of The Raymond Blanc Gardening School. Editorial director Ruth O’Rourke acquired world rights from Borra Garson at DML Talent, for publication in February 2027.
In the book Beth shares her guidance for growing “the very best chef-approved crops.”
“In Around the World in 80 Seeds, readers will discover the edible crops from all over the world that grow in the kitchen garden at the celebrated restaurant,” the publisher says.
“Each delicious crop is explored from seed to harvest, weaving together the fascinating stories behind their global origins with tips on how to use them in the kitchen. August takes the reader through every stage of planting and caring for each vegetable, fruit or herb – passing on her expert tips, and recommending the very best heirloom varieties to grow.”
The book will also feature a dozen recipes from the chefs of Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, a Belmond Hotel, Oxfordshire, including a signature beetroot terrine from Raymond Blanc.
Beth said: “I may have written this book, but I am merely the conductor of the garden orchestra. Mother Nature, the people who have held and protected these seeds for generations and generations, and the chefs who have transformed them into beautiful dishes, are the true main characters within these pages. Around the World in 80 Seeds is not simply a book about vegetables. It is a love letter to the stories hidden within them.
“Every seed within these pages carries a history, a journey, a personality of its own. From wildly theatrical warty squash to humble heritage roots treasured for generations, this book brings each variety to life not only in the garden, but also upon the plate. I hope this book inspires others to fall in love with growing, to sow seeds not only for food, but for joy, connection, storytelling and wonder.”
O’Rourke commented: “August brings a huge amount of energy and creativity to everything she does and this is evident on every page of Around the World in 80 Seeds, her debut book. Together with her incredible knowledge of growing the tastiest crops for the most demanding chefs, and her skill as a teacher and communicator, she is uniquely positioned to guide the reader on their grow-your-own journey. Every crop is selected for its unrivalled flavour and with August’s guidance, anyone can grow them, wherever they are.”
