The Bodley Head, an imprint of Vintage at Penguin Random House UK, has acquired a book from former deputy prime minister Angela Rayner.
Alice Skinner, editorial director at The Bodley Head, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Matilda Forbes Watson at WME.
The book will cover Rayner’s background growing up in an impoverished household and her unconventional route into politics, her rise to power and the aftermath of her resignation.
Rayner wants the book to inspire and encourage others to overcome adversity, the publisher says, adding that she will work with a “hand-picked” writer to “capture her authentic voice and plainspeaking style on the page”. Rayner will also read the audiobook.
Skinner said: “We are delighted and proud to be publishing Angela Rayner. Her book will be unvarnished and upfront – you can expect her authenticity to shine through – and an empowering vision for a fairer, kinder society that will enable everyone to flourish. It will spark change, one reader at a time.”
The as-yet-untitled book is set to be published in the second half of 2026.
