Virgin Books, previously a standalone business within Random House, is being made into an independent imprint within Ebury Publishing, under m.d. Fiona McIntyre.
Virgin will now sit alongside fellow imprint BBC Books. RH said the development followed Virgin m.d. John Sadler's decision to leave the business.
Sadler took up the role in September 2008, and has "successfully overseen not only a physical move but also a complex restructure resulting in a significant improvement in the financial position of the business," said the publisher. His role will not be replaced in the new structure, which becomes effective today (2nd November).
Random House Group chairman and c.e.o. Gail Rebuck said "This is a terrific move for Virgin Books as it transitions from an initial hot-housing phase to the next stage in its growth plan. The strong editorial team will continue to build an excellent, well-defined list whilst benefiting from the support infrastructure of a great established publishing house."
Random House acquired a 90% share of Virgin Books in 2007.
