Kindle Store launched in Spain and Italy

Amazon has launched the Kindle Store in Spain and Italy, as well as its first Spanish-language and Italian-language Kindles, priced €99.

The Amazon.es Kindle Store launches with more than 22,000 Spanish-language Kindle books, including 20 of the top 30 El Cultural bestsellers, plus more than 1,000 free classics in Spanish and Catalan, Basque and Galician.

It will also carry three exclusive self-published books from author and journalist Rosa Montero. Both the Spanish and Italian Kindle stores will offer authors and publishers the Kindle Direct Publishing service.

Amazon.it boasts over 16,000 Italian-language Kindle books, including titles by Umberto Eco and Tiziano Terzani.

EU Kindle director Gordon Willoughby said the company was "excited" to make the move into the new territories. This follows the launch of the Kindle store in France in October this year.
