John Murray is releasing a special edition of Stephen Hawking's final book Brief Answers to the Big Questions exclusively with independent bookshops.
The Collector’s Edition, available only for indies to order from 10th September, will feature five "personal appreciations" of Hawking’s life and work from close colleagues Lord Martin Rees, Dame Stephanie Shirley, Tom Nabarro, Yuri Milner and Professor Fay Dowker. Each "moving" essay from these experts, all leaders in their fields, will explore Hawking's role in their lives as a "teacher, mentor and friend".
To accompany The Collector’s Edition, John Murray is also releasing special point-of-sale material, including bespoke window clings, posters and a set of premium bookmarks based on Brief Answers to the Big Questions.
John Murray sales director Megan Schaffer called The Collector’s Edition "a key part" of its campaign strategy.
"It is about making sure that our bookselling partners in the independent sector have everything they need to sell this book all the way through Christmas and beyond," she said. "The Collector’s Edition forms a unique offering and will be available only to their customers. Myself and Dominic Smith, Hachette field sales director, are very much looking forward to launching it at the BA Conference on Monday."
As announced in May, the book will be published this autumn on 16th October.
