The new chair of the Society of Young Publishers (SYP) UK is Georgia Goodall, editorial assistant at Carlton Books. She is joined by vice chair Victoria Haslam, business affairs assistant at Audible.co.uk. The appointments were announced at the SYP’s a.g.m., held in London on 29th January, at which the organisation’s 70th anniversary was marked with an exhibition of past issues of InPrint, the SYP’s magazine, and a panel discussion on ‘Shaping the Next 70 Years of Publishing’.
The SYP’s regional chairs were also announced at the meeting. The co-chairs of SYP Oxford will be Anna Shannon, Portfolio marketing executive at OUP, and Kate McNamara, Marketing Communications Manager at Elsevier. The new chair of SYP North will be Becca Parkinson of Comma Press. The co-chairs of SYP London will be Aimee Dewar, a freelancer in marketing and book design, and Kimberley Sheehan, assistant programme manager at The Reading Agency.

The new chair of SYP Ireland will be Jessica Ryan, senior product editor at Lonely Planet, and the new committee members for SYP Scotland will be announced in April.
Goodall said: “I am so thrilled and honoured to become UK chair for 2019, with a great friend Victoria Haslam as vice chair. This year we will be celebrating 70 years of the SYP, but the creation of a new, focused Inclusivity officer role [occupied by Salma Begum of The Good Literary Agency] and our new South-West branch show that we are still continuing to develop and evolve in really exciting ways.
"We've got some fantastic new targets and goals to move forward with this year and I'm really excited to work with all of our local committees and partners to continue the advance of the society and its members.”
