Fitzcarraldo Editions is embarking on a new audiobook programme, starting with its first two audiobooks produced in house in partnership with Cast Iron.
Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by 2018 Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Olga Tokarczuk is read by the translator, Antonia Lloyd-Jones, and Pond by Claire-Louise Bennett, is read by the author. Both were officially released this week.
Drive Your Plow... and Pond are the first two in a series of five titles to be produced thanks to a grant from Arts Council England. The grant enables Fitzcarraldo Editions to trial audiobook production and distribution, with the aim of sharing its experience of doing so with other smaller independent presses.
Fitzcarraldo Editions’ audiobooks are now available for direct sale through the Fitzcarraldo Editions website through the Glassboxx platform. The 58 e-books produced by Fitzcarraldo Editions since launching in August 2014 are also available for direct sale on the website.
Tamara Sampey-Jawad, associate publisher at Fitzcarraldo Editions, said: "We’re very excited to be launching our audiobook list, and to be partnering with Cast Iron and Glassboxx as we strive to make our titles available to an even wider readership. We’re lucky to be starting the series with readings by Claire-Louise Bennett and Antonia Lloyd-Jones that wonderfully supplement the printed text, and we look forward to releasing more over the summer."
