Artemis Fowl film gets premiere date on Disney+

The Artemis Fowl family adventure film, based on Eoin Colfer's books, was supposed to premiere in UK cinemas in May, but has been moved to Disney+ amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Walt Disney Studios' adaptation of the series, which has been in the pipeline since 2013, will now premiere on the streaming service on 12th June.

"Artemis Fowl" is based on the first two books in Colfer's eight book fantasy series, Artemis Fowl (2001) and Artemis Fowl and the Arctic Incident (2002), following the 12-year-old descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds as he tries to save his father who has been kidnapped.

Ferdia Shaw stars as the title character, with Colin Farrell and Judi Dench featuring in the cast.

The screenplay was written by Conor McPherson and Hamish McColl. The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh.
