Del Rey, the SFF imprint of Cornerstone, has acquired A E Warren's Tomorrow’s Ancestors series, a four-book high-concept science fiction series, billed as "Jurassic Park meets Sapiens, set within a bold new imaginative world".
Del Rey acquired world rights from Bev James at the Bev James Management & Literary Agency. The first book in the series, Subject Twenty-One (originally self-published under the title The Museum of Second Chances) and its sequel will be published by Del Rey in July 2021 with the third and fourth books following in January and July 2022 respectively.
The synopsis for the series reads: "Set in an alternate future affected by extreme climate change, and where genetic engineering has allowed humans to bring back extinct species, the Tomorrow’s Ancestors series tells the story of a young woman tasked with caring for a Neanderthal, and the secrets they discover together that will change this new world order forever. It asks, what if our future lies 40,000 years in the past?"
Sam Bradbury, senior editor, said: "I’m absolutely delighted to be publishing this incredible series from rising star and huge talent, A E Warren. I’ve been actively looking for more brilliant female, British science fiction writers, and A E Warren and her series are everything I could’ve hoped for and more. I can’t wait for readers to discover the fascinating world Amy has created, where the mistakes of our past may be doomed to be repeated in the future, and for them to fall in love with the main character, Elise, as she discovers there is more to living than survival."
A E Warren commented: "I am so happy that the Tomorrow’s Ancestors series has found such a good home with Del Rey. Subject Twenty-One is the first book I have written and I’m aware of how lucky I am to be able to share it with new readers. I’ve been enjoying the works of Del Rey authors for years and it means a lot to me to now join them. The entire team have my gratitude for their hard work. Special thanks go to Sam Bradbury and Ben Brusey for this opportunity and also for their expert insights and brilliance."
A E Warren is a pseudonym for Amy Warren.
