Fiona Barton has signed a new two-book deal with Transworld following the success of her debut The Widow.

Frankie Gray, publishing director, commercial fiction at Transworld, acquired British Commonwealth rights including Canadian and audio rights to two new novels from via Madeleine Milburn at the Madeleine Milburn Literary, TV and Film Agency.

Barton’s debut, The Widow, was a Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller, a W H Smith Richard & Judy Book Club pick and has been published in 37 countries. It was followed last year by The Child and altogether Transworld said it has sold over 450,000 copies of Barton’s novels worldwide.

Her third novel, The Suspect, will be published in February 2019, to be followed thereafter by the two newly contracted novels.

Gray said: “It’s been a privilege to work with Fiona thus far and to see her formidable talent as a writer translate into incredible sales success, as readers have been transfixed by Fiona’s distinctive and original novels. Perfect for fans of psychological thrillers, Fiona’s novels look at the betrayals and secrets that lie close to home, coupled with real emotional depth and heart. We are delighted to have the opportunity to continue to build Fiona’s brand and to be able to do so for many years to come.”

Barton added: “I am so thrilled to be part of the wonderful and inspiring Transworld family for the next part of the journey.  I can’t thank them enough for continuing to believe in me.”
