Abrams Children’s Books has acquired a middle grade fantasy series, inspired by Irish mythology, by Hollywood actor Thomas Lennon.
The first book, Ronan Boyle and the Bridge of Riddles, is about 14-year-old Ronan, the youngest and lowliest recruit to the Garda Special Unit of Tir Na Nog, the Irish police force that handles the crimes of leprechauns and other wee folk. Ronan’s parents are in jail but Ronan is convinced that they were framed by the wee people and is determined to learn all he can while in the garda in order to prove his parents’ innocence.
Executive editor Maggie Lehrman negotiated a three-book deal for English-language rights with Stephanie Rostan of the Levine Greenberg Rostan Agency and will publish in February next year, with illustrations by John Hendrix.
“Ronan Boyle and the Bridge of Riddles has been a labour of love,” said Lennon. “I had been waiting for the right subject for a fun fantasy novel for many years, and Abrams has helped me craft the book into a hilarious adventure that I’m really proud of. The addition of the brilliant illustrator John Hendrix to the mix is a gift. I hope to be writing these seriously silly books for years to come.”
The series will be distributed in the UK by Abrams & Chronicle Books.
