Yellow Kite has acquired Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Your Route to Recovery by Lauren Windas, described as “an invaluable toolkit" for anyone living with the condition.
Executive publisher Liz Gough acquired world rights from Clare Hulton of The Clare Hulton Literary Agency, for publication on 4th May 2023 in trade paperback, e-book and audio.
Windas developed Chronic Fatigue Syndrome at university in 2012, following a viral infection. She went from enjoying an active lifestyle to being unable to get out of bed overnight. She was completely exhausted by any mental activity, thoroughly depleted, panicky and unable to move on with her life, the publisher’s synopsis says.
But she kept trying and found changes to her diet, nutrition and lifestyle helped. Now, a decade on, and living a full life again, Windas has retrained as a nutritionist and naturopath, “determined to dig deeper into the disciplines that helped her most".
Today, Windas is the founder of a wellbeing brand that creates natural self-care products and comprises a wellness clinic to help others recover from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, bringing expertise from both a patient’s and practitioner’s perspective.
The synopsis continues: “This is the book Lauren wishes she had in 2012 when Chronic Fatigue Syndrome abruptly upended her student career. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Your Route to Recovery describes Lauren’s own health and recovery journey, condenses the science of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and explores its causes and symptoms. Lauren uses her clinical expertise to offer a road to recovery — including nutritional advice, testing, recipes and lifestyle tools and strategies — and she provides helpful case studies.”
She said: “My mission is to raise awareness and to break the stigma that is chronic illness. I have included in my book everything I have learnt from a personal and professional experience of the illness. I want it to guide others on their own recovery journeys, inspire hope and provide solutions. I have spent the past decade reclaiming my own mind and body from the crippling effects of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. In April 2018, I was able to run the London Marathon in celebration of overcoming so many obstacles. I hope that sharing my experience and knowledge can empower others to discover that recovery is possible."
Gough added: “By sharing her own journey alongside practical things that readers can do for themselves, Lauren has provided an invaluable toolkit for anyone with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. From exploring lifestyle adjustments to changing your mindset this is a comprehensive take on how to manage this chronic illness, which will help so many people. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Your Route to Recovery aligns perfectly with our Yellow Kite values of providing expertise and also hope to our readers and we are really proud to be publishing it.”
