Wildfire has pre-empted Hae-Soo Park’s novel My Perfect Deserted Island.
Senior commissioning editor Areen Ali pre-empted world English and European-language rights, including audio, from Jackie Yang at Eric Yang Agency on behalf of Korean publisher Changbi Publishers.
The novel was originally published in South Korea in July 2025 and will be translated by Slin Jung.
My Perfect Deserted Island follows Jian Cha, who leaves behind her corporate life and moves to the remote Songdo Island in search of a slower, more meaningful way of living. As she adapts to life on the island, she learns to forage, grow food and live in tune with nature.
The novel will be published in trade paperback, e-book and audiobook on 14th January 2027.
Park said: “I’m amazed and delighted that My Perfect Deserted Island has been signed by a publisher outside Korea. I’m curious how readers who dream of retreating into seclusion will receive this quiet seaside story from Korea.”
Ali said: “This novel is pure escapism, and thus the perfect antidote to read during grey winter months. I was drawn in by Jian’s struggles and charmed by her optimism as she persevered to carve out a life for herself.”
