Short Books has acquired This Is Not a Book About Cancer by journalist Jade Beer.
Jo Morrell, publisher at Short Books and Aster, acquired world rights direct from the author. The book will publish in hardback in May 2027.
The synopsis describes the title as "a collection of deeply personal conversations with women who have had or are living with cancer", featuring accounts from women across public life and beyond. Beer was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in January last year and the book grew out of her own experience of diagnosis.
Beer’s previous books include the novel The Last Dress from Paris (Hodder & Stoughton), which was translated into 10 languages.

Morrell said: "This is a subject that is affecting thousands of women and their families and their friends, every day and everywhere. Jade is a beautiful writer and sensitive interviewer, who has faced the trauma of cancer herself and believes passionately that the sharing of such stories can bring comfort to those who need it. We want to ensure this reaches as broad an audience as possible wherever they are in the world."
Beer added: "This is the most important book I will ever write, and I owe a huge debt of thanks to all the women who have spoken to me with such incredible honesty and frankness. I hope you never need this book but if you do, I also hope that, like me, you will find a deep comfort among its pages from a network of women who have been there and understand more than most what you are going through."
