Quercus to publish Huey Morgan memoir in September 2025

Quercus will publish The Fun Lovin’ Criminal: A Memoir by Huey Morgan, backed by a national publicity campaign.

The book will be published on 11th September 2025 in hardback, e-book and audiobook read by Morgan, with UK and Commonwealth rights acquired by Quercus’ non-fiction publishing director Richard Milner from Rory Scarfe at The Blair Partnership.

Quercus said: “When Fun Lovin’ Criminals released their smash-hit debut album Come Find Yourself in 1996, its fusion of hip-hop, funk, blues and rock quickly saw it become one of the most iconic and influential records of the decade. Now, in this humorous and honest memoir, frontman Huey Morgan describes his remarkable journey from journeyman to rock star.

“His is a story that begins in the early 1990s in New York, as a marine freshly returned from combat and struggling to return to regular life. As Huey tries to kickstart his musical career, he finds himself falling into the criminal underworld to get by. But as his band begins – against all the odds – to take off, can he extricate himself before his shot at stardom goes begging?”

The publisher added: “Written in Huey’s inimitable style, The Fun Lovin’ Criminal brings the grit and glamour of 1990s New York to vivid life.”

The book will be launched with a national publicity and marketing campaign and Morgan will be available for events and signings.

Morgan grew up on the Lower East Side of New York in the 1970s and 1980s, then toured the world with Fun Lovin’ Criminals. He is a musician, DJ, producer and award-winning BBC broadcaster.

Morgan said: “I always thought my life was like a movie, but when I wrote it down I realised it was more like three or four films happening at the same time. When I returned home after serving my country, I was homeless and alone and suffering silently from depression, but within three years I would become a major label recording artist, marry a Mafia princess and make a million dollars. This is how it happened, or at least how I remember it.”

Milner said: “Huey’s inimitable voice leaps off the page and he’s as cool to read as he is to listen to.”
