Puffin has acquired The Danger Game, the “electrifying” follow-up to Tom Fletcher’s bestselling middle-grade adventure The Danger Gang (2020).
Publisher Natalie Doherty bought world rights as part of a multi-book deal from Stephanie Thwaites at Curtis Brown, with publication scheduled for 8th October 2026. The book, which “sees the return of Franky and the rest of the Danger Gang as they plunge into the next level of adventure” and has a video-game hook, will be illustrated by Shane Devries.
As well as the publication of The Danger Game in October, 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Fletcher’s debut novel, the British Book Award-shortlisted The Christmasaurus, which Puffin will also publish an edition of in October.
Doherty said: “Tom Fletcher is a true children’s publishing phenomenon, and in the National Year of Reading we’re thrilled to announce this new novel from an author whose fun, energetic, exciting and accessible adventures align so perfectly with Puffin’s mission to publish a book for every reader. This high-octane new story, set across several brilliantly realised, immersive video-game levels and told in the funny, sparky voices of the Danger Gang themselves, will absolutely thrill both existing fans and brand-new readers. We’re so proud of our longstanding and very successful creative partnership with Tom, and we’re delighted about this exciting next step.”

Fletcher commented: “I often hear from young readers asking what happened to Franky and the gang – I’ve wondered this myself a lot, too! I’m usually a fast writer but a certain little marmalade-loving bear came along and required my creative focus. Once we finished ’Paddington’, I felt compelled to jump back into Franky’s world and write the book that would then become The Danger Game.
“Out of all the books I’ve ever written, completing the first draft of The Danger Game was by far the most satisfying, and I hope that readers enjoy jumping back into Franky’s electric world as much as I did. I like to write about things that I love, and this book is inspired by something my boys and I have a lot of fun doing together: gaming. I hope that this year, during the National Year of Reading, this video-game storyline will offer young readers another way to read into their passions and offer another entry point to the magic of reading."
Devries said: “Tom’s imagination never ceases to amaze me, and this electrifying follow-up to The Danger Gang is no exception. I loved returning to Franky’s world, and I hope readers have as much fun jumping into the gang’s new adventures as I have had illustrating them.”
