Hodder will publish two historical books by Tracy Borman, bestselling author and recently appointed chief historian of Historic Royal Palaces (HRP).
Hodder Non-Fiction publisher Rupert Lancaster and Grove Atlantic executive editor George Gibson have joined acquired rights. Lancaster acquired British Commonwealth rights including e-book and audiobook from Julian Alexander at The Soho Agency.
The first book, to be published on 4th September 2025, will be The Stolen Crown –Treachery, Deceit and the Death of the Tudor Dynasty.
Hodder said: “This draws on groundbreaking new research which challenges the perceived wisdom on the transfer of power from Elizabeth I to James I. The subject of her second book is to be revealed at a later date. Every element of the campaign for The Stolen Crown will elevate Tracy’s growing profile and capitalise on the book’s groundbreaking subject matter. Her recent Channel 5 TV documentary, The Princes in the Tower, attracted 1.2 million viewers, outperforming the primetime slot average by 46%. Tracy will be undertaking a tour of the UK to promote The Stolen Crown at literary festivals, bookshop events and media appearances.”
Borman is the author of historical bestsellers, most recently Anne Boleyn & Elizabeth I (Hodder) and recently appointed to the newly created post of chief historian of Historic Royal Palaces (HRP).
She said: “Now that the centuries-old belief that Elizabeth intended the throne for James of Scotland has been questioned, I want to re-examine the contemporary sources (including some very exciting new material) to find clues about her plans for the succession. I also want to draw a dramatic contrast between the dazzling court culture of the Virgin Queen and the debauched delights of the Jacobean court, bringing to life just how shocking the shift from Tudor to Stuart sovereignty was to most people in England. I am lucky to work at both the Tower of London and Hampton Court, so I’m very much immersed in the history of the period.”
Lancaster commented: “Tracy is a brilliant author who combines immaculate research with great storytelling. George Gibson and I have worked closely and productively on Tracy’s previous books, so I’m delighted we have secured two exciting new titles for publication in 2025 and 2027.”
