Batsford hits the dancefloor with Naomi Tipping’s dancing dogs flipbook
Batsford has hit the dancefloor with Naomi Tipping’s latest flipbook, following on her success of her debut Cats In Pants. This time, dogs take centre stage in Dogs Can Dance. Commissioning editor Nicola Newman acquired world all-language rights from Neil Dunnicliffe at Spring Literary.
Each page of the book, illustrated in Naomi’s "charmingly hand-drawn, hugely expressive" illustration style, is divided into three so you can mix them up to create oodles of different dog dancers.
Tipping, who has 129,000 followers on Instagram, also won the Batsford Prize for in the 2024 Illustration category with her entry Oh Crumbs.
She said: "I’m delighted to be unleashing Dogs Can Dance into the world. After the wonderful response to Cats In Pants, it only seemed fair that dogs should get their moment in the flap-book spotlight! We all know a dog who thinks it can boogie, and in this book, they really can. I hope these unexpected, delightfully silly combinations will make lots of people smile."
Newman added: "We’ve loved seeing Naomi’s hilarious Cats In Pants out in the world, and now it’s the dogs’ turn. In this adorable flip book you’ll learn that dogs really can dance – meet a tapdancing dalmatian, a tangoing Bedlington and a Jack Russell in a tutu. And watch out for Art doing the robot, he’s my very favourite."
Dogs Can Dance by Naomi Tipping will be published by Batsford in September 2026.
